Every lamp shade has a fitter: the way the shade connects to the lamp. Glass lampshades are separated by the their fitter size and fabric lamp shades are separated by their fitter type. Example: a 6 inch fitter glass shade can have a variety of style shapes and sizes but it connects to the lamp with a 6 inch shade holder and a bulb clip fitter fabric shade connects to the lamp by clipping onto the bulb. Common fitter types for fabric shades include washer fitter, bulb clip fitter, and uno fitter. In this article we will explore the use of the UNO type fitter and the UNO fitter adapter.
What is an UNO Fitter?
An UNO fitter is a large threaded ring in the middle of the fabric shades top tripod. It is designed to thread onto UNO sockets. UNO sockets have the same matching thread on their socket shell. The most common application for this type of shade and holder is the bridge arm floor lamp.
Can I Use an UNO Shade on a Different Lamp?
Sometimes the need arrises for someone to adapt the UNO fitter in the shade to a washer fitter. With theUNO shade adapter the shade can be mounted on any harp or 1/8IP threaded rod. The adapter fits in the threaded part of the UNO fitter and reduces the opening to about 1/2 inch.
Now the UNO fabric shade can be used on harps or 1/8IP rods. Here is an example of an UNO shade on a Cluster Floor Lamp.
