Important! You must remember that before you attempt to fit, replace, or remove any of the parts on an electric lamp or fixture you must always disconnect or unplug the lamp or fixture from any source of electricity before you begin. Simply turning the lamp "off" will not protect you from an electrical shock.

If you are not sure how to safely disconnect your lamp or fixture from its electrical source, you should contact a licensed electrician or your local power company for further instructions.

How To

Wiring Tips for Inline Lamp Cord Switches:

  1. Identify smooth and ribbed sides of 18/2 parallel (side by side) lamp cord
  2. Make sure the smooth cord is connected to the copper-colored, positive terminal of your lamp socket, and the ribbed cord is connected to the silver-colored, negative terminal.
  3. In an area on the length of lamp cord you wish to install your inline switch, gently separate the 18/2 parallel cord by cutting between them and pulling them apart to create a separation of about 1-1/4". Avoid cutting into the main insulation that wraps the individual cords.
  4. Disassemble the switch and inspect the interior. Inside you will see a channel on both ends where the cord feeds through and two sets of small sharp prongs that will make a connection with the positive (smooth) side of the 18/2 lamp cord.
  5. Cleanly severe (cut) only the positive (smooth) lamp cord and place it firmly into the interior of the inline lamp switch where the small sharp prongs inside the switch will pierce and connect with the copper stands inside the insulation of the smooth cord. The negative (ribbed) side of the lamp cord will feed through, uncut.
  6. Carefully reassemble the switch while keeping the 2 lamp cords pressed into their correct positions. Gently tighten the screw(s) until there is no gap showing between the two halves of the switch assembly.
