My preferred floor switch

"Of the two floor switches (SKUs 40154 and 40122), I prefer the low-profile switch (SKU 40154). However, I cannot recommend either unless you use non insulated ferrules to cover the bare stranded wire. The switches inside use either push-in terminals or screw terminals, neither of which are optimum with stranded wire. With the use of inexpensive ferrules, push-in terminals and screw terminals become a non-issue. (You could use insulated ferrules, but you will end up cutting off half the insulation so that the wire can wrap around the tight corners inside a floor switch.) (p.s. In most of western Europe, the use of ferrules to cover stranded wire when connecting to terminals is required by code.) As stated in the descriptions, the two floor switches have different ampere ratings. Also, while both switches are advertised for SPT-1 and SPT-2 cord, the openings on the low-profile switch (SKU 40154) are too small for SPT-2 cord. The openings would have to be enlarged to accommodate the wider insulation. The high profile floor switch (SKUs 40122) can handle SPT-2 18/2 wire without an issue. The high profile switch should also handle SPT-2 16/2 wire, but I have not tried it."
