Exactly what the doctor ordered.

"I ordered 5 of these and promptly received them. I have two identical designer porch lights that had similar medium-base sockets but the spring clips had rusted and broken (in less than 10 years.) The new units clipped in and the repair was performed in minutes. The new units seem to have a finish on the clip, while the old units had bare steel clips. The clips are easier to remove than they are to insert. Here is the method I used: 1. The clip has two “detents,” one near the tip and one at the end of the flat portion. 2. Insert the clip into its square hole on the fixture base such that the detent at the end of the flat portion is seated on the edge of the hole. 3. Use a needle nose to pull most of the clip's loop through the hole. 4. Carefully press the tip of the loop towards the hole edge until the detent engages. Try not to scratch or scrape the finish off of the clip, and watch that you don’t bend the fixture base. My fixture base is made of pretty soft aluminum sheet and bends easily. My dream is that someday we will have no more lamps that use a screw-in base. There are many reliable inexpensive connectors that won’t vibrate lose and won’t corrode or cause problems like I’ve just repaired. I feel like this time is just around the corner. But, until then, Antique Lamp Supply is a great way to keep things bright."
